A look at the iconic fashion brand

Mugler is a French fashion brand that has been making a splash in the industry for over four decades. Founded by designer Thierry Mugler in 1974, the brand quickly gained a reputation for its avant-garde designs and futuristic aesthetic.
Mugler’s early collections were heavily influenced by his background in dance and theater, and featured bold, sculptural silhouettes and a strong focus on tailoring. The brand’s signature “power dressing” aesthetic was born, which put an emphasis on strong shoulders and cinched waists. This aesthetic was a strong contrast to the more bohemian and unstructured styles that were popular at the time.

In the 1980s and 1990s, Mugler’s fame reached new heights, with the brand’s designs worn by some of the most iconic celebrities of the era, including Madonna, who wore the iconic “Cone Bra” during her 1990 Blond Ambition Tour.
The brand went through some changes in the 2000s, with Thierry Mugler stepping down as creative director, and the brand taking a hiatus for several years. However, in 2018, the brand made a comeback under the creative direction of American designer Casey Cadwallader.Cadwallader’s approach to the brand is a mix of nostalgia and innovation, while still maintaining the brand’s signature futuristic aesthetic. He has introduced a new focus on sustainability and inclusivity, with the brand’s runway shows featuring a diverse cast of models of all ages, sizes, and ethnicities.

Today, Mugler is once again making a splash in the fashion world with its bold and innovative designs.

The brand, which had been on hiatus for several years, made a huge comeback with a collection that was both edgy and nostalgic.
The show, which was held at the iconic Grand Palais, featured a mix of futuristic and retro-inspired designs. The collection was heavy on metallics, with silver and gold tones dominating the runway. There were also plenty of sharp, angular lines, as well as oversized shoulders and sculptural silhouettes. One of the standout looks was a metallic silver bodysuit paired with matching wide-legged pants and a billowing cape. Another memorable moment was a gold-plated jumpsuit with a plunging neckline and a dramatic train. Mugler’s creative director, Casey Cadwallader, also paid homage to the brand’s iconic past by incorporating elements from Mugler’s archive into the collection. This included a reinterpretation of the brand’s signature “power dressing” aesthetic, as well as a nod to the iconic “Cone Bra” worn by Madonna in the 1990s.

The show also featured a diverse cast of models, with a range of ages, sizes, and ethnicities represented on the runway. This was a refreshing change from the homogenous casts that are often seen at fashion shows.
Overall, Mugler’s comeback show was a huge success, with critics praising the collection for its mix of nostalgia and innovation. The brand has definitely left a lasting impression on the fashion world, and we can’t wait to see what’s next.
